Wyomissing, PA – August 14, 2023 – The Quality Center, a prominent retail complex located across from The Shops at Rockvale, has successfully concluded its naming poll, resulting in the selection of “Lincoln Square” as the new name. The initiative was led by Motus Development, the new owner of the shopping center, as a means to involve the community in shaping its identity.
In May, Wyomissing-based Motus Development acquired the 2495 Lincoln Highway East shopping center, which houses notable establishments including the Waffle House, DXL, and Adidas. Eager to forge stronger community ties, the company invited the public to participate in the renaming process, with four potential names to choose from. “Lincoln Square” emerged as the preferred choice, reflecting the center’s location along Lincoln Highway East.
The naming poll, which was open to public participation, garnered significant engagement from residents and visitors alike. Over the course of several weeks, individuals cast their votes, expressing their preferences for the new name.
“Involving the community in this endeavor holds paramount significance,” said Mike Brown, Director of Acquisitions and Leasing at Motus Development. “It’s not just about choosing a name; it’s about fostering a genuine sense of community ownership, where every individual becomes a stakeholder in shaping the center’s new identity.”
“Lincoln Square” not only highlights the center’s geographical location but also pays homage to the historical significance of the region. The name encapsulates the rich heritage of the area and establishes a strong connection with its roots. Additionally, the name resonates with the center’s role as a central hub for shopping and community engagement.
The renaming initiative took inspiration from the founder of Lancaster city, James Hamilton, and the early name for the city, Hickory Town. It also alludes to William Penn, the founder of Pennsylvania, through the name “Penn Wood Square.” While these suggestions held historical value, “Lincoln Square” ultimately won the hearts of the community, with its simplicity and direct reference to the center’s location.
A pivotal aspect of this naming endeavor is the forthcoming capital improvements, including the installation of a new sign featuring the selected name. This new signage will not only enhance the center’s visibility but will also solidify its identity as “Lincoln Square.”
The Quality Center, originally established in 1987 as an outlet center, has evolved over the years, becoming an integral part of the local landscape. The recent renaming initiative comes at an exciting time, as the neighboring Rockvale undergoes significant redevelopment by Fernmoor Homes. The plans for Rockvale involve transforming half of the existing commercial space into 16 new four-story apartment buildings, offering 504 residential units.
The announcement of “Lincoln Square” as the new name marks a momentous occasion for the Quality Center and the community it serves. As the center moves forward with its revitalized identity, it is set to continue its legacy as a vibrant retail and community destination.
